3 DIY Aromatherapy Projects Using Essential Oils

Did you know that Aromatherapy has been used for over 3,500 years now? Yes, you read that right, 3500 years. The first ones were ancient Indians, who used it for Ayurveda (holistic healing), then the Chinese were found using aromatherapy to balance Qi and then came the Egyptians and the Greek who pioneered the use of aromatic plants.

The National Association for Holistic Aromatherapy defines aromatherapy as “the art and science of utilizing naturally extracted aromatic essences from plants to balance, harmonize, and promote the health of body, mind, and spirit.” That’s quite a mouthful isn’t it, but it is what it is. However, horridly they may define it but the fact that aromatherapy is awesome and beneficial in so many ways does not change.

If your mood needs lifting then sometimes, all you need is the scent of a candle or a shower with aromatherapy shower bombs. A warm bath full of bath salts can do wonders for you even after the most horrendous of days. But Shower Steamers are even better. 3 DIY Aromatherapy Using Essential Oils

1. Bath Salts

Essential Oils

It’s surprisingly easy to prepare your own bath salts at home. Martha Stewart’s recipe for bath salts is pretty fool-proof and requires just 5 ingredients and gets done in 3 easy steps. To make this, you will need-

  • Coarse sea salt
  • Epsom salts
  • Baking soda
  • Essential oils
  • Food coloring

Steps you will need to follow-

  • In a large bowl, mix to combine: 6 parts coarse sea salt; 3 parts Epsom salts, to soothe tired muscles and reduce inflammation; and 1 part baking soda, to soften waters and alleviate skin irritation.
  • Add a few drops of essential oils and combine.
  • Add a few drops of food coloring, until you achieve the desired shade. If you intend to present the bath salts as gifts, be sure to store them in a stoppered container to keep out moisture.

Or you can totally just buy aromatherapy shower bombs online if you don’t want to go through all the hassle.
